Each year, the Summer Solstice marks something both simple and meaningful, the longest day of the year and the official beginning of summer. This year, as we welcome the season, I find myself thinking about how beautifully this moment aligns with life here in Healdsburg, Sonoma County.
For thousands of years, cultures around the world have recognized the Summer Solstice as a turning point. The word solstice comes from Latin, sol meaning sun and sistere meaning to stand still, as if the sun pauses for just a moment before beginning its slow return toward shorter days.
But here in wine country, the solstice feels less historical and more experiential.
This is the season when mornings invite us outside with coffee on the patio and evenings seem to stretch endlessly into golden light. Vineyards glow a little longer, gardens begin to reward our patience, and dinner somehow tastes better outdoors.
This year feels especially special to me personally. It’s my first season growing over 130 Phenomenal lavender plants and I have been absolutely over the moon watching them bloom right as summer begins. There’s something about seeing nature reach its peak right alongside the longest day of the year that feels grounding and celebratory all at once.
Summer in Sonoma County has always been one of the reasons so many of us love living here:
- Long evenings gathered with friends and family
- Farmers markets overflowing with local produce
- Vineyard views that change by the hour
- Outdoor dining that turns into lingering conversation
- Gardens, lavender, and backyard moments that become memories
One of the things I appreciate most about real estate after all these years is realizing that home is rarely just about square footage. It’s about creating a life around moments like these.
As the season officially begins, my wish for all of you is simple: take advantage of the extra daylight. Stay outside a little longer. Call a friend. Share a meal. Watch the sunset. Enjoy music in the Plaza.
The longest day of the year only comes once, but summer in Sonoma County is just getting started.
Happy Summer Solstice ☀️
