Women’s History Month 2025
Women’s History Month is celebrated annually in March to honor the contributions of women throughout history, society, and culture. Established nationally in 1987, it corresponds with International Women’s Day on March 8.
Women’s History Month began as “Women’s History Week” in Santa Rosa, California, in 1978, coinciding with International Women’s Day. It gained national recognition through President Jimmy Carter’s proclamation in 1980. Congress designated March as Women’s History Month in 1987, and annual presidential proclamations have continued since then.
